From Farm To Cup
The Aceh District is a rising star in the coffee world, celebrated for its unique cup profiles and traditional Indonesian cultivation methods. This coffee comes from the Gayo Arabika Mahkota Indonesia (GARMINDO) cooperative, made up of over 500 small-scale farmers, many of whom are women supporting their families through coffee. The farms, averaging less than 3 acres each, carefully sort and process their cherries using traditional micro-mills, following the unique wet-hulling process known as Giling Basah. This gives the beans their distinctive bluish hue and classic Indonesian flavor profile.
Despite the challenges of rugged roads and unpredictable weather, GARMINDO plays a crucial role in organizing local infrastructure and transportation. In collaboration with PT. Sumatera Arabika Gayo (SAG), they efficiently process and export the coffee, ensuring better earnings for the farmers.
It's been a while since we've featured a Sumatran coffee, and we’re excited to bring you this one! Indonesian coffees are known for their bold and unique flavors, which may not always be for everyone—but that’s exactly what we love about them. They offer something different from the everyday grocery store variety, and behind every cup is a story waiting to be told. We hope you'll give this coffee a try and appreciate its journey as much as we do!
